The History Of The Crescent

Scarborough was an elegant, exclusive Victorian resort for visitors who could afford to stay for a substantial season. This required appropriate housing and thus the building of The Crescent commenced in 1833.

The terraces were erected to the original design by Richard Hay Sharp and Samuel Sharp of York, architects. The smaller Belvoir Crescent was finished in 1837 but The Crescent and the 4 villas were only completed in 1857.
